The Purpose

of Community Land Shepherds is to teach, practice, and promote regenerative land management and native habitat restoration on public, private, and cooperatively managed lands while supporting equitable access to land, local food, water, and natural fiber.

The Mission

of Community Land Shepherds is rooted in the recognition of our interdependence with nature. We apply our collective knowledge, skills and material resources to restore the natural environment and to improve the health, vibrancy and economic resilience of our local communities.

What is Your Vision for Your Land?

  • Less mud, less dust, less compaction and runoff?
  • Less flooding and drought?
  • Green growth late into the year — or all year round in warmer climates — with no irrigation?
  • Reducing fire hazards and controlling vegetation, dry weeds and brush without mowing or spraying herbicides?
  • Plenty of forage in your pastures for your horses and livestock, even in summer or in drought years?
  • Growing nourishing food for animals and humans alike?
  • Making a livelihood from what your land can produce?

Our goal is to broaden an emerging community of practice we see taking root, both locally and globally among folks who want to learn the principles of soil health, and to use these principles to transform their balconies and backyards, their farms and their ranches into thriving ecosystems. Here are some ways you can get started:
